Hatha Yoga Sivananda

Hatha Yoga: The Union of Sun & Moon
Yoga is not just exercise.
It is a profound spiritual science - a sacred path that leads to Self-realization, balance, strength, and inner stillness.
Hatha Yoga is the foundation.
It begins with the body - but its ultimate purpose is to master the mind and awaken to Truth.
What Is Hatha Yoga?
Many associate Hatha Yoga only with postures (asanas) and breathing exercises (pranayama) — but this is only part of the journey.
The true purpose of these practices is to:
✧ Purify and strengthen the body
✧ Regulate the breath and energy flow
✧ Prepare the mind for stillness and meditation
✧ Awaken the seeker to the Self, to God, to Reality
‘Ha’ means Sun,
‘Tha’ means Moon,
‘Yoga’ means Union.
Hatha Yoga is the sacred union of solar and lunar energies, masculine and feminine, effort and surrender — creating harmony in body, mind, and soul.
The Roots & System of Practice
Hatha Yoga originates from the Tantric system and is said to have been first taught by Lord Shiva —the primordial yogi and embodiment of transcendental consciousness.
The classical system I teach follows the lineage of Swami Sivananda, as taught by Swami Vishnudevananda, and is based on The Five Points of Yoga:
-
Proper Exercise (Asanas)
-
Proper Breathing (Pranayama)
-
Proper Relaxation (Savasana)
-
Proper Diet (Vegetarian lifestyle)
-
Positive Thinking & Meditation (Vedanta & Dhyana)
This is Yoga as a way of life - a lifestyle of simple living and high thinking, where the body becomes a temple and the mind a bridge to the Divine.
A Journey Inward
There are many forms of modern yoga today - Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Yin, Kundalini, Bikram — and each has its gifts. But in my teachings, we return to the source.
You are invited to roll out your mat and join a 90-minute practice that will take you deep within.
We’ll move, breathe, stretch, and relax with awareness.
Together, we will:
✧ Flow through Sun Salutations
✧ Explore the classic 12 Asanas of Swami Sivananda
✧ Breathe life into the body through pranayama
✧ Drop into inner silence and awareness
